I first met Steve in February of 2002.
It was in Melbourne at his second ever investment seminar
and in fact at the time is was going to be his last. He
and his business partner Dave, put on quite a good event
and even had Canadian Real Estate expert Don R. Campbell on
the speaking bill. Steve is just a great likable bloke, a
very successful likeable bloke actually... Steve McKnight began investing in real
estate in May 1999. Five years on and, together with his
business partner, they'd acquired over 180 properties at
an average of a new dwelling every nine or so days.
Currently their portfolio sits at approximately 100 income
producing properties that deliver a net income in excess
of $200,000 per annum.
McKnight's
success is not a rags-to-riches story, rather it was a
matter of him being unhappy with his chosen career and,
after a stress related health scare, finding the courage
to try something new.
His chosen outcome was to seek to invest in
a way that would generate enough cashflow to replace his
salary income, yet finding the right investing approach to
deliver this outcome proved tricky.
In the course of his research McKnight found
disturbing statistics outlining that the way most people
invested in property (i.e. negative gearing) was flawed
and not delivering sustainable profits. That's when he
chose to pursue positive cashflow properties - meaning
buying houses that made real money from day one.
His journey took him away from the glamour
properties that the masses buy and into regional areas
where the prices are lower and the yields are higher.
In 2003 he wrote From 0 to
130 Properties in 3.5 Years - a straightforward
account of his experience and success in investing. It was
well received selling over 100,000 copies and, for a
number of weeks, sitting at #1 on the Non Fiction
bestsellers. It remains popular, as evidenced by its
status as the highest selling business book for 2004
(Source: ACNeilson Bookscan).
For the majority of 2004 McKnight mentored a
small group of proteges to prove his success, based on
commonsense investing principles, was no fluke. His
proteges' impressive financial and personal achievements
demonstrate that the right person, in the right
circumstances, and using the right approach, can build
substantial monetary and personal wealth using property.
A trained Chartered Accountant, a highly
sought-after speaker and real estate commentator, and
recognised as one of Australia's leading positive
cashflows experts, McKnight's straight-forward and no-hype
investing strategies have helped many other investors
fast-track their property investing success. To find out
